What does a podiatrist do?
A podiatrist (DPM) diagnoses and treats conditions of the foot, ankle and lower leg.
A podiatrist - Doctor of Podiatric Medicine, or DPM - is a specialist in the foot, ankle and related structures of the leg. Training runs four years of podiatric medical school followed by a surgical residency.
Conditions they treat
Heel pain and plantar fasciitis, bunions, hammertoes, ingrown and fungal toenails, flat feet, Achilles problems, sports injuries, and the foot complications of diabetes.
When to see one
Persistent foot or ankle pain, a wound that is slow to heal, numbness or tingling, or any foot problem alongside diabetes.
