Harford Lower Extremity Specialists has cared for Harford and Cecil County patients since Dr. Howard Schultheiss founded the practice in Bel Air in 1991, later opening a second office in Elkton. Dr. Schultheiss holds dual board certification in podiatric medicine, surgery, and wound care, and in 2009 the practice became the first podiatric-specific ambulatory surgical center in Maryland to earn Joint Commission accreditation. Alongside Dr. Alison D'Andelet, who trained under noted foot and ankle surgeon Dr. Guido LaPorta, the team treats conditions spanning Achilles tendon problems, ankle instability and sprains, arthritic foot and ankle pain, bunions, corns and calluses, flat feet, fungus toenails, gout, hammertoes, heel pain, ingrown toenails, neuromas, neuropathy, plantar fasciitis, and wounds. Services include advanced wound care, diabetic foot care, and pediatric foot and ankle care, supported by an in-house vascular laboratory built in partnership with Maryland Vascular Associates for same-day testing that helps prevent amputations.
