About NWCare- Podiatry

NWCare - Podiatry is part of Northwest Health Care's mobile medical services, bringing podiatric care directly to residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities rather than operating as a walk-in outpatient clinic. Podiatrists on staff, trained through four-year medical schools and three-year surgical residencies, perform routine foot care and diabetic foot exams, diagnose and treat fungal nail and skin infections, and handle minor in-room procedures such as ingrown nail treatment. Diabetic exams include neuropathy staging and a vascular assessment to help facilities manage residents' long-term foot health, and a portable X-ray machine allows imaging to be performed without transporting patients elsewhere. Custom orthotics are created using three-dimensional laser scanning technology. By treating residents where they live, NWCare aims to relieve family members and facility staff of the burden of coordinating outside medical transportation, with a corporate office in Salem, Oregon coordinating scheduling for partner facilities.
